Municipal Backup

It’s a hot, South African summer day. You turn on the tap for a cool drink of water but… nothing.

With poor and improperly maintained water infrastructure in so many South African communities, water outages are becoming an all too regular occurrence. That’s why, more than ever before, it makes sense to invest in a JoJo Tanks Municipal Backup Solution.

A JoJo Tanks Municipal Backup Solution consists of a tank that is tied to the main water supply line and fills automatically when mains water is available. This water can then be used in the event of a water cut, providing you with an uninterrupted, pressured water feed that is clean and safe for household use and consumption.

As municipal water is usually chlorinated, it can be stored inside a JoJo tank for extended periods of time. You just need to make sure that the tank is properly sealed and that it is, indeed, a water tank with JoJo’s food-grade black inner lining. We recommend that the water is run every two weeks in order to rotate the water and ensure that the best quality water is available.

Choosing the size of your JoJo Tank for municipal backup is dependent on two main factors: a) how many people will be utilising the water and b) how long you want the backup to last. The average South African uses 150lt of water per day. You can calculate the required tank size by multiplying the litres of water you would need per day by the total days of desired backup.

In the event of a water cut or supply failure, the system’s built-in pressure controller will sense a drop in pressure and start pumping water from the tank into the house, providing you with an uninterrupted water supply. It really is as simple as that.
